Golf Tips - Getting Started
History has it that the game of "golf" was born in 15th century Scotland. Then around 1744, the first rules of play were codified and established in Edinburgh by The Company of Gentlemen Golfers. Golf has become one of the most popular sports in the world; played in countries as far reaching as Mexico and Ireland, South Africa and China. And, of course, Scotland. And the world has not been the same since. It's come as no surprise that there are universities offering degrees in Golf.

Mind Mastery For Golf (DVD & CD)Reviews"Using HK and your Mind Mastery For Golf program, I was able to win the International Qualifer For Asia at 6 under par and qualified for the 2009 British Open." Gaganjeet BHULLAR India "Too much as happened for it to be a coincidence that things turned around soon after your Mind Mastery For Golf program arrived. The First week brought a 3rd place finish in the PGA Eastern Regional Club Professional Championship in Virginia; followed 2 weeks later by a win in our local two day Atlantic City Pro Am. Interesting enough the change was not that obvious in my game which has always been erratic but adequate, but more in the attitude that allowed me to get more out of my game. The most obvious change was in the putting where the fear seemed to disappear. A typical example would be standing over a putt as always, but when fear would try to control my thoughts my response would be, "You can do this just relax," and the voice was gone. In the past when that would happen, I might respond the same way but the thought would push its way back in and distract me making the result hit or miss. Even worse, if I made the putt I came away more with relief and thinking I got away with something rather than with the confidence of accomplishment. That seems to have changed. I am referring anyone who will use your program and I hope they are following through." B.H., PGA Teaching Professional New York "Since your Mind Mastery For Golf program arrived I have been shooting between 83 and 89, which is a considerably lower range than ever before. With our club Championship coming up I was very anxious to receive your program. It's a three day tournament over 36 holes. I came close to winning it last year, but mentally self-destructed on the final round. Last week I won our club championship by 7 strokes! I unseated the player that held the championship for the past 9 years! Along with the Championship, I'd definitely say that your program has taken me to new levels of my game, and I also think to inner peace, all in three weeks! In addition to immensely improving my golf game, I'm also a calmer, more patient person, and, as a result, a happier person. My friends have noticed this. What an added benefit! The part of the your program on the `Right Hemisphere' has had such an impact on my life. Since I tend to be a `left hemisphere' personality, I now pursue `right hemisphere' activities to achieve the balance of using both hemispheres. I hike regularly, exercise, and have also taken the guitar up again. I actually play golf better if I play the guitar the evening or morning before I play a round of golf. Of course, this is in addition to setting my goals and listening to the CD. I cannot emphasize what an impact your program has made in my life. I've never felt as at peace with myself as I do now. So, thank you Ernest, and thank you and Hemispheric Kinesiology." J.M. California "I have been listening to your Mind Mastery For Golf CD for over two months and I am very pleased and excited about the results. I am a 2 handicap and desire to consistently shoot par or better. After listening to your tape at home and in the car, I have been shooting, consistently even par and better at my home course. Just to let you know, on one occasion last month I listened to the tape three time in one day and went out and shot 9 under par on my home course. I will continue listening to the CD to help me with golf and my personal goals. Thank you for developing Hemispheric Kinesiology." R.J.L., PGA Teaching Professional Arizona Average Rating:![]() |

Titleist Pro V1x Golf Balls (2009 Model, One Dozen)ReviewsI received a dozen Titleist Pro V1 balls 7 years ago when I won a long drive contest....I tried them out and I've been with the Pro V1 ever since. The ball has obviously evolved a little bit in the last 7 years, but it keeps getting better and better each time. Since the introduction of the Pro V1x, I have used the two interchangeably and love both. The Pro V1x is extremely long off the tee, has very soft feel, and can really bite on the green. Your basic Top Flite or Pinnacle golf ball is built to go straight and far.....and that's it. With that combination, you lose the ability to control the ball on your approach and around the green as balls will often roll off the back - not the case with the Pro V1x. It gives you excellent control around the greens and the feel is indescribable. This is a great ball for anyone who can put together a solid round! Compared with the Pro V1, the Pro V1x is a bit longer but does not feel quite as soft around the greens. The only downside to the Pro V1x is the pricetag - but the it's worth it to me. If you are the type that puts a lot of balls in the woods or in the drink, it might not be the best ball for you. A cheaper Titleist ball that performs well is the Titleist NXT. I also received a sleeve of Callaway Big Bertha balls in the mail as part of a promotional deal...I tried them out and liked them as well. I hope this helps. Please comment if you have any questions. The ProV1x is a great ball for serious golfers. It provides lower spin rates for straighter iron shots and longer, straighter drives. The cover is still soft so you don't get that rock feel you get from cheap distance balls. Folks looking for a ball with a little more spin should buy the Titleist Pro V1 I bought 1 doz NEW balls and they are sending me 36 used. They are for Fathers Day and will now be late. Due to the product price I was expecting a surprise on the goods, but I received every thing as promised with no bad surprises. Good merchandise good price The Titleist Prov1 is an excellent golf ball and worth every penney. The item shipped is exactly as described. I mistakenly thought this product was shipped from and sold by Amazon.com. When I realized that the item was shipped from Amazon but sold by Cheapcues after I placed the order I was a little apprehensive. But the transaction went extremely smoothly. Shipping was fast and the communication and customer service was excellent. Purchase with confidence. Average Rating:![]() |

Titleist Pro V1 AAA Recycled Golf Balls (36 Pack)ReviewsI would recommend that everyone buy these golf balls -- I got balls very quick and they were outstanding. golf ball-r-us is a very nice company to work with. I would order from them again The quality of the balls in this package were not AAA in my opinion, more like "B". Several of the balls had scuff marks from trees and/or cart paths. Also, the overall look of the golf balls were very gray or dingy. Makes me think they were in the water a long time. I wouldn't order them again. These Titleist balls are those that are lost on the courses but then salvaged by the greens keepers or others. They are cleaned up and then packaged. Overall I am quite pleased with them. Since they are from different sleeves, you might need to mark your balls before you use them in a group. I would recommend the use of these balls. I ordered these expecting some serious scuffing and some X-Outs. The details while orderings was a little vage. But I figured it would be worth it at this price. What I got was 36 balls with practicaly no scuffs and no x-out balls. I got 13 pro v1 392's and 23 Pro v1's. Some had logo's and a few players marking but most was perfect.GREAT VALUE. Thanks I ordered AAA some of balls were questionable ... would never order less than AAA. Average Rating:![]() |

Titleist NXT Tour Recycled Golf Balls, 36 packReviewsThese balls are a terrific bargain. I ordered 72, and they are all in excellent condition, virtually pristine. Looking down at the occasional corporate logo is a small price to pay for the steep discount you get over the cost of the same balls bought new. They were also shipped promptly. 24 of the 36 balls that came in the package were in perfect condition, most had a logo on them and a few had Sharpie marks. The other 12 had minor scrapes that by no means leave them unplayable, with the exception of one that had a dimple-sized gouge in one spot. Can't go wrong for this price, especially if you're like me and sick of playing cheaper balls just because you're on a budget. This order arrived on time and in good condition. All the balls looked in good shape but 13 of the 36 were logo balls. 2 had player marks. The ones I've played, play as new balls would. Gave this a 4 rating only because of the number of logo balls not that the logo balls are bad, just too many of them. I will keep buying these as long as they are offered by Amazon. Great ball at a price I can afford. The description lists these as "excellent" which is more or less correct. I found several balls with scuffs which was disappointing. I expected logo overruns but not as many scuffs as I received. On the package it says the balls are actually taken and re-coated with a clear coating to bring them back to a like new condition. Would have been nice to have this listed in the description. One other observation was that some of these balls were several years old. I could tell because some of the logo's were for events several years past. In reality unless you are close to a scratch golfer I doubt any of these issues will impact your game at all. Good price on three dozen balls for the weekend golfer. Overall I think this was a great purchase and I will probably buy these again. The only issue I have with these balls is that there are at least a dozen balls with company logos on them. This is a distraction when I'm playing, so I gave them to my son. Average Rating:![]() |

Just a Range Ball in a Box of TitleistsReviewsThis book won't cure your swing or putting problems...but you'll laugh your club socks off reading it! McCord is top notch in my book! McCord's story about the annual ex-wives' golf day at his home course is, by itself, worth the price of admission. It is the funniest, most wicked thing I have ever read. I don't make a habit of reading Pro golfers' memoirs (except Jack's,big John's and, of course, our Greg's), but I am glad i made this book another exception to the rule. It is a collection of very short stories about his life on the Tour and his golfing adventures with his club mates. You couldn't invent the profiles of some of his mates. Birds of a feather....? Gary throws a lot of adjectives and adverbs into some of his sentences and sometimes get tangled up amongst them. As you would expect he doesn't take himself too seriously and is often the butt of his own jokes. No doubt this is why we don't get his account of his famous conversation with Hogan, and the low down on his eviction from Augusta. Buy, Buy, Buy. As someone who has read a lot of inane sports book (if you took out all the f-words in Lenny Dykstra's book, it wouldn't even make for a pamphlet) but this clearly is the worst book ever published by someone who can seems to be able to speak English. He is entertaining and witty holding a microphone and in the forward, he pretty much admits he just took the money but clearly so did the "editor" and publisher - nothing wrong with that - we don't expect most sport bios or sport commentary books to be very substantial in tone or language but to be pointless, dull and pointless and dull - yes, it's that's pointless and dull. The premise seems pretty simple - basically give us a rundown on the year on the PGA Tour - give us insights or take us there? Doesn't sound too difficult. Can't write - not a problem - why not just talk into a recorder and someone can type it up, an editor can move things and so forth but to fail on every level? Nearly every sentence starts out with one idea and wanders off to another completely. After being a golfer and a commentator for nearly 20 years, you'd think he'd offer some insights - any insights? Except that golf is hard and sometimes unfair ... really? Is it saving it all for the TV? Funny stories? Nope. Says some stories are funny but can't them to us or writes it in such a manner, it's not funny. He's infamous as an announcer for being banned from the Masters Tournament - how about setting the record straight? Nope. Gives us some general info everyone knows and then goes into another subject IN THE SAME CHAPTER. On TV, he is a raconteur and witty but gives ZERO evidence here. Unless you just want it on your shelf to own every golf book or if you intend to hollow it out and store valuables, there's no real point to owning this book as reading material. For golf fans, this this clear a whiff, the grip slips off, the driver goes flying and knocks us loopy. Even in that condition, we could've written two coherent sentences that McCord is clearly incapable of ... In contention for the worst book ever published. If you are familiar with Gary McCord then you should know that he is a little off the wall. Therefore, it wasn't a surprise that this book was off the wall. As a golfer, reading this book helped me to relax and enjoy the game more. It also helped in putting a smile on my face. This is not a book that should be taken seriously. Rather, it is a book that can help you find joy in the little things you do. This is an entertaining and somewhat peculiar collection of essays from Gary McCord. I say somewhat peculiar, because I'm never sure whether they are truthful or tall tales. Probably somewhere in between. But what does it matter whether they're literally true or not--it's not as if I have some kind of personal reference what life on the PGA TOUR is like.McCord has been funnier and is funnier when he's speaking. This book has a weird, atmospheric style. More deadpan than you'd expect. It's as if he's speaking parables to you and you're never quite sure which parts are supposed to be funny. There's something else about the style ... as if he is trying to stay one notion ahead of the reader, which he accomplishes by leaving out a thought or two from time to time. I can't say it's bad, but it's not what one would expect.I'd rate this 3-1/2 stars but I'm stuck with whole numbers. It's definitely better than average ... but not great. If you want side-splitting, colorful tales, you'll want to check out Peter Dobereiner's work. This book provides a stranger, more meditative experience. Average Rating:![]() |

Some true stories and some that are not so true, all of which feature the unique McCord brand of humor. |
The best way a beginner can begin is by learning what NOT to do. So, for the novice getting started, the game entails entering a world with a rich and varied history, a major investment of time and money, a demanding physical and mental learning curve and last but not least - days with huge amounts of "FUN"!
Now, don't go running out and spending a small fortune on things you don't know anything about. Such as course fees, golf lessons, and golf attire. Some courses are not worth the fee nor are the costs for equipment claiming to be of high quality. The clothes and lessons can also wait for a time.
The newness and the joy of finding a sport that you can play alone, with friends and spouses, or even with the whole family is part of the excitement. Learning to play golf well can be an emotionally exhausting experience not to mention expensive. Take some time and do a bit of research. You'll not want to enter into this without being armed with what you need to know.
Learn to take baby steps first and remember to have fun and not take yourself and everything else too serious. The pros will generally advise against spending too many weeks on the driving range at first, claiming you may develop some bad habits that are difficult to break once you start playing on the course. However, spending a bit of time on the driving range can be beneficial, helping to get the muscles moving, discovering if you've got any inclination or interest in the game and an idea of what and where to use what clubs.
Find a cheap course and wear comfortable, baggy clothing that doesn't restrict your arms and shoulders. Save that $1,000 you'd spend on pants, shoes, and shirts for later. To start use a simple three club set you can borrow from a friend or use a clubhouse rental. A Nine iron, a wedge, and a Number 5 wood is plenty. Actually the wedge won't get much use on a driving range, but you can add a putter and move to the putting practice area later. Some have miniature versions of sand traps to practice escaping.
Take it easy, watch those who hit well and imitate their grip, stance, and posture. Tee up, keep your eye on the ball as you swing, and give it a firm whack. If you miss a few, so be it. Have Fun. You're teaching your body what the swing feels like, what angle and impact produces what kind of flight..
On the putting green, start very close to the hole — no more than a couple of feet. When you can make 25 putts in a row more or less consistently, move back to six feet, 10 feet, 20 feet — no farther. 'More or less' consistently — even the pros sometimes miss a two-footer!
Whether driving or putting, stand so that a casual push wouldn't knock you over. Golf is about balance, concentration, and some simple physics. Now, go have a cool drink in the clubhouse and enjoy the day.
